We are excited to offer Kybella treatment to our patients in Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Littleton, Denver, and throughout Colorado. Kybella is an exciting new treatment which is the FIRST and ONLY injectable drug clinically proven to reduce fat under the chin! If you don’t like the appearance of your neck, Kybella™ may be just the right solution for you!
Q: What is Kybella?
A: Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is a medicine which is given through a series of tiny, shallow injections to permanently destroy fat cells. Once destroyed, these fat cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
Q: Where is Kybella used?
A: Kybella is FDA-approved for treatment of submental fullness or excess fat under the chin. Both women and men can benefit from Kybella treatment.
Q: What is unique about Dr. Ort’s approach to Kybella treatment?
A: Because each patient’s cosmetic needs are different, treatment must be customized to the individual. Prior to treatment, Dr. Ort takes his time to examine and palpate the neck to map out the best injection points. Injections are made with expert precision using a tiny 32 gauge needle. To ensure patient comfort, Dr. Ort injects numbing medicine (lidocaine) prior to treatment with Kybella. This eliminates the burning discomfort that patients would otherwise experience. This is Kybella at its best without the discomfort!
Q: How long does Kybella treatment take?
A: Kybella is a non-invasive, "lunchtime" treatment. A typical treatment session in our office takes about 30 minutes.
Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: In clinical trials, many patients experienced visible results within 2-4 treatment sessions. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be given if needed. We recommend that patients plan for 3 treatment sessions up front and consider additional sessions if needed.
Q: What is the typical recovery after Kybella treatment?
A: Because Dr. Ort uses numbing medicine, you should not experience significant discomfort during the treatment. There is usually some mild discomfort for a few days afterwards, along with some swelling. Other temporary reactions may include bruising, numbness, redness, and firmness. Ice and oral medicine such as ibuprofen can be used after treatment.
Q: Are there other risks?
A: All injectable cosmetic treatments can rarely have side effects. In skilled hands, Kybella treatment has a very low risk of serious complications. We recommend that you review our consent form prior to your treatment.
Q: How is Kybella supplied?
A: Kybella comes in individual vials of 2 ml. Typically 2 vials are given per treatment session. A patient with a large neck may require 3 vials per session.
Q: What is the cost of Kybella treatment?
A: Kybella treatment is priced per vial used. We would be happy to discuss pricing with you over the phone or in person
Q: Who is the best candidate for Kybella treatment?
A: The ideal patient has a moderate degree of fullness in the neck below the chin along with good skin tone. Patients who have a great deal of loose skin in the neck may not be ideal candidates. However, Kybella treatment can produce some tightening of the skin, which means that patients may benefit from Kybella treatment even if there is some skin laxity present. Dr. Ort can let you know if you would be a good candidate for this treatment.
Q: Is Kybella a "game changer?"
A: Most of our patients do not want to undergo a surgical face or neck lift. Until now, we have not had an effective way to reduce fat in the neck in a non-invasive manner. Kybella treatment has been clinically proven to improve the appearance and contour of the neck through a series of small injections. We feel that this is a huge advance in cosmetic dermatology.
